Busy Hands

While I was in America, I introduced Larry to rug making. I didn’t know if he would like it, but he certainly did. We started him off with the rug of the deer, see above. It’s now hanging on his bedroom wall, right above his bed and looks wonderful, don’t you think?

After making about five other rugs of varying sizes whilst he was waiting to come over here, he decided to design one for himself. This is it below and I think he’s done a great job of it too. He plotted out the chart in Excel and then ordered the back-cloth and the yarns to make it. It took a while because it is very thick and luxurious, but now he has something he can be truly proud of.

I’ll be showing you some more crafty items that Larry has made. He really is very talented.

Meanwhile I progress with my patchwork. Here are some squares I made recently. When joined together they will be a table runner.

I chose pinks and purples because I had quite a few bits and pieces of fabric left over from making the quilt for Larry’s bed.

Here is the quilt:

The picture turned out a bit dark, but you get the idea, and here are the squares I’m making:

So we keep ourselves busy. Busy hands don’t get into trouble, do they!

Have a lovely Sunday πŸ™‚

  1. Wow! That is quite an accomplishment, Larry. I’m very impressed. And your quilts are also very beautiful, Star. Thanks for sharing these crafts with me. πŸ™‚

  2. Nice projects all around…very nice rugs Larry…I’ve done that too but found it hard on my hands with the pulling. And the quilt squares are going to make a nice quilt(is that strip quilt pattern?) Please keep us updated on that!

  3. Oma, the Rugs are wonderful, especially like Larry’s own design.. I used to help my Grandma and Granddad make rugs when I was small, I would sometimes cut the wool into the correct lengths and Grandma would let me thread some, but they were not very level as I remember so I didn’t get to peg many holes..
Love you patchwork quilt too.. love the choice of colours… Big smiles to you both and its good be keeping busy.. πŸ˜‰
Hugs and enjoy your Sunday Evening!

  4. What great projects. I have always been tempted by the rug hooking, sort of scared to try yet another craft to fill my house up with stuff. And I do envy your ability to sew a straight line – precision is important with quilting and your work looks terrific.

    • Thank you πŸ™‚ yes there is a lot of ‘stuff’ about in this cottage. Larry and I have loads of yarn. Additionally I have material fabric and spinning roving. Oh well! we’re retired now so why not!
