I started my newest knitting project the other day. It is going to be a cape as shown in ‘Jane Austen Knits’. I think it looks really pretty and I knew I had just the yarn for the base of it.
Here is the pattern:
As you can see the base is a thick brown worsted yarn – just right for warmth and the overlay is a fluffy mohair in a gorgeous lacey pattern. The handspun yarn I made myself last October is just right for the base:
But I’m not sure about the colour of the lacey top layer. I think I may choose a light beige to do that. What do you think?
It’s very beautiful, Star. I was also thinking that perhaps a cream color for the top would be pretty. I look forward to the finished product! 🙂
I saw a girl wearing a knitted dress the other day and it reminded my of the knitted dresses I wore when I was a teenager (many moons ago) – I love the fact that knitting never goes out of fashion 😀
Yes they were very fashionable in the 60’s. Mary Quant started it over here. I had a maroon one with a beret to match and beautiful ecru patterned tights. I went to the heart of London to get those and I was the envy of a lot of my school friends.
Light beige would be a nicer color than the one shown in the illustration.
Yes, I don’t think the mauve goes well at all, does it. Light beige it is then. I’m going searching the yarn shops!
I agree with your choice of a lighter shade.. and love the pattern and yarn… 🙂
